A cheap flight available at the last minute compelled us to celebrate K’s fourth anniversary of her 25th birthday in Porto, Portugal (25 was a good year!). It has easily been one of the best decisions we’ve made all year. Reason being, Porto is a very easy city. To start, the views are free. By that we mean you are confronted by beautiful scenery and cityscapes wherever you turn, without even having to try. You don’t have to pay any money to instantly be transformed by views that are stunning, moving, romantic, and inspirational all at the same time. Not to mention, Port wine, Portugal’s flagship wine, might as well flow like water. It is strong and inexpensive because it is made right across the river in neighboring town Gaia. Port wine quickly adds to the sensory allure of what you are seeing. Food is also cheap, but high quality and filling. So after the views, good wine, and good food, and a spot overlooking the immaculate Duoro River, you’re good to go!
